The WCRC was formed by ministers, civic leaders and concerned citizens who felt a need to bring a centralized center into existence to better serve the needs of the community. The WCRC was charged with evaluating food insecurity and developing a food pantry. Since its origin in June 2010, the need for food assistance has continued to grow and in 2024 the food pantry assisted our community and served an average of 410 households per month comprising an average of 1,121 people/month . The food pantry is dependent on volunteers who donated more that 4,400 hours in 2024 to operate the food pantry.
We rely on the generosity of churches and individuals to provide the bulk of our operating funds. Donations typically provide 70% of our income, with the remaining 30% coming from grants and fund raisers. Approximately 70% of the income goes directly to providing services such as food, prescriptions, and medical/dental travel. The remaining 30% of the income covers administrative costs. The latter have increased in 2024 with a move to a new, larger facility.
The WCRC also overseas the ministry of the Winnsboro Salvation Army unit that provides funds for rent/utility, and emergency losses
