At SHINE, our mission is to create community for single moms, helping them lead their families toward wholeness. Our vision is to create a thriving community where single moms are empowered to grow in faith, strengthen their families, and build financial stability, all while connecting and supporting one another. By fostering this sense of community, we empower moms to face challenges and build strong, healthy families. In the U.S., 34.9% of children live in single-parent households (U.S. Census Bureau, 2023), and in Smith County, 40% of children are raised by single parents (Annie E. Casey Foundation, 2022). These families face unique challenges, particularly in the areas of financial security, mental health, and social isolation. In 2024, we dedicated ourselves to looking at national data, conducting interviews with moms in our community, and engaging with local organizations serving similar populations. This process helped us ensure we are not duplicating services and confirmed that creating a sense of community for single moms is a vital need. We are focused on fostering growth and connection in the areas of faith, family, and finance.
