Rusk County Pets Alive

About this Organization

Rusk County Pets Alive provides life saving protocols, education and resources to our local Animal Center to increase live release rates. When we started working with the Henderson Animal Center in 2018, the live release rate was around 33%, meaning only 33% of the animals were getting out alive. Today the live release rate is well over 90% and normally ranges between 95%-98%. With the help and support of the City Leadership, Henderson TX Animal Center Director and staff we are able to continue growing more programs to help sustain these practices. We provide vet care, basic training and transport for shelter animals as well as appropriate placement for the dogs and cats. Rusk County Pets Alive has a prison dog training program called Rusk County Second Chance Initiative. This program is an opportunity for inmates to gain job skills in dog training, communication, leadership and organizational skills as well as building confidence for life after release. For the dog, it is an opportunity to learn skills that will help them be successful in their future home. Rusk County Second Chance Initiative will be transformational for both the inmate trainer and the dog.
