East Texas Oil Museum
About this Organization
The Kilgore College East Texas Oil Museum has been a vital institution since its opening on October 3, 1980, a date chosen to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the historic test production run of Daisy Bradford #3, the pioneering well that marked the beginning of oil production in the East Texas Oil Field.
Our museum offers visitors a captivating journey into the past with classic exhibits and immersive experiences like "Boomtown, USA." This full-scale town allows visitors to step back in time and experience the essence of life in the 1930s. From the beloved Boomtown Theater to the thrilling "Elevator Ride to the Center of the Earth," our exhibits provide an unforgettable glimpse into the region's rich history.
Situated in the heart of Gregg, Rusk, Smith, Upshur, and Cherokee Counties, the museum is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the East Texas Oil Field, once the largest in the world. We are committed to honoring the people who lived through this transformative period in East Texas.
With a dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and docents, we are steadfast in our mission to be responsible custodians of our shared history.
